Happy Thanksgiving week!! I cannot believe the holidays are here. Speaking of holiday shopping, I wanted to share a spotlight of local SF jewelry designer and friend, Becky Johnson! She is the founder and designer of Annachich Jewelry, and just launched a beautiful capsule collection inspired by a historical SF landmark, the Phelen building in downtown SF.
Becky is a graphic designer turned jewelry designer in San Francisco, CA. She interned under Master Goldsmith Alan Revere in 2012. Her metal work is incredible and unique! Her pieces are made with so much love and would make amazing gifts or be a great addition to your own collection. I am in love with 5 hex cuff and Dot Pendant Necklace!
Here is a little bit more details about Annachich, the newly launched Capsule Collection and her fascinating historical inspiration.
Annachich Jewelry emphasizes architectural ornamentation and the preservation of ornate details. Becky designs and hand-fabricates all Annachich Jewelry in her San Francisco studio. Annachich was named in honor of her grandmother, an artistic force who liked crocheting and playing the slots (how cute is that!)
"My Capsule Collection is the Phelan building. I took images of the ceiling tiles and marble architectural details and I turned them into jewelry. I want every piece to feel as if it were unearthed from your grandmother’s jewelry box." -Becky Johnson
Erected in 1907, the historic Phelan building is an admired piece of downtown San Francisco. In 2012, the artistic community that thrived in Phelan for well over three decades was torn apart. The Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts was one of many tenants evicted without cause. Becky was working at the school at the time of the eviction. As the tenants were forced out, the marble walls and oak halls were destroyed on many floors by the building's new owners.
This special collection of jewelry is to preserve the story and soul of Phelan. Created from architectural replicas of the building's unique elements, Becky created custom components that were hand-fabricated into finished jewelry in her San Francisco studio.
